The Chains:
They came together to pay tribute to Terry Hall, the charismatic lead singer of The Specials, who died far too early in December 2022, and who was subsequently remembered at a sold-out concert at Loppen in February 2023.
As lead singer Pato Siebenhaar, who started his career in the ska-punk band Furillo and later had five Ugens Uundgåelige on P3 as well as international chart success with the pop group Trolle//Siebenhaar, says: “We have all loved the energy that is in this music – it is hard to get anywhere else. So when Lasse Elmer, who was previously behind the Copenhagen Ska Convention music festival and is a guitarist in Fall Back Down, suggested that we get together and play a few The Specials songs to pay tribute to Terry Hall, it was like coming home. It felt right.”
It felt so right that Pato – together with bassist David Peter Jørgensen, a lifelong lover of early Jamaican music, active vinyl collector and DJ in the sound system Cry Tough Sound – went into the studio and quickly produced a series of demos.
Guitarist and singer Kevin Leo, from the internationally touring band Leo & The Lineup, also contributed a few tracks, and four months after the concert at Loppen, the band had a full album.
On drums is Bjørn Hardenberg, who has been a part of Von Dü, one of Denmark's strongest live orchestras, for 15 years. On organ is Jacob Palitzsch, who comes from the legendary band Napoleon Solo, formed in 1984 – and who has played together with The Specials, who were the very reason The Chains were created.
“We sat down and agreed to create what we felt was missing: A really cool ska and reggae band,” says Pato Siebenhaar. “We all come from a DIY background – we are a product of the underground scene where this music lives. If we lack something, we have to create it ourselves. No one from the commercial world comes and does it for you. It’s just up to you, write some songs, practice and play them and hope that people dance to them.”
The Chains released their debut album “Crying On The Dancefloor” in September 2024 to several “best of ́24” top 5 placements on blogs, radios and zines. 2024 featured shows at Copenhell, Asgaard Rock Festival and One Love Reggae Fest, while 2025 includes shows in Germany at the Freedom Sounds festival and in the USA at the Supernova Ska Festival and the next album “Be Careful What You Wish For”, which will be released in the fall of 2025.
