Kanadiske Anciients bringer deres progressive metal forbi Danmark når de gæster Stengade d. 29 september.

After winning a JUNO in 2016, Anciients were officially anointed as the guiding lights for progressive metal. However, keeping their momentum rocking and rolling proved to be no easy feat. For too long, metalheads feared these mighty Canadians had gone dormant. The road was threatened by many shadowy twists and turns, but after eight years of hermetic silence, Anciients have returned with a new lineup and a new album that now stands as their heaviest, headiest and most heartfelt offering.

Fans who’ve waited on bended knee for more fretboard heroics will not be disappointed by Beyond the Reach of the Sun. Lead single “Melt the Crown” fires off not one, not two, but three guitar solos. Each one comes with its own unique flavor, too, spanning from plaintive folk to southern blues and psychedelic prog.

Of course, Anciients aren’t afraid to headbang. After a spell of acoustic fingerpicking, “Cloak of the Vast and Black” reveals itself as a chugging riff monster. Conceptually, the album is just as heavy. It tells the story of a society that’s enslaved by forces from another dimension. But at its core, Beyond the Reach of the Sun is about perseverance. Just as the enslaved discover spiritual knowledge by way of a cosmic entity, writing these songs also lead the band to uncover new wellsprings of inspiration. “Is It Your God” concludes with an epiphany of synths that dazzle like a lazer light show.

On Beyond the Reach of the Sun, Anciients climb to the summit of progressive metal.

IPOMONIA is a budding progressive metal band that blends elements of modern progressive metal with Nordic melancholy, creating a distinctive expression that moves between the intense and the introspective.

Inspired by names like Leprous, Eivør and Wardruna, IPOMONIA’s sound is characterized by magnificent compositions that are at the intersection of technical complexity found in progressive metal and melodic sensibility from Nordic traditions. The Greek word for patience “Ipomoni” comes from an ancient Greek philosophy that states that enduring suffering is the very foundation of wisdom. Together with IPOMONIA, you enter a landscape of lingering dreams and nightmares.

The debut EP »Contemplation I« was released in March 2025, and was created in collaboration with a number of prominent Danish progressive metal musicians: Eskil Rask from Iotunn on both fretless and fretted bass, Frederik Uglebjerg from Isbjörg (formerly Svartsot) on drums, Bjørn Wind Andersen from Iotunn as co-composer of the drum arrangements and Tue Krebs Roikjær from Morild on raw vocals.

Permanent members of the band are currently, in addition to Maja Partsch, drummer Christian Dahl Blumenberg.

The live band's debut show was at Epic Fest 2026, which in the festival's own words was “A huge and beautiful concert from the Danish newcomers” and nordica live magazine writes: “The Nordic-inspired prog metal is delivered with a Valkyrie-like energy and a captivated audience and especially in the last number we reach a layer of air that promises good for the future”.

Advocacy er et dansk progressivt metalband, der kombinerer melankolske stemninger, tekniske arrangementer og eksplosive udbrud. Med debutalbummet The Path of Decoherence etablerede bandet – i samarbejde med producer Frederik Uglebjerg – en moderne og dynamisk lyd med rødder i både progressiv metal, melodisk dødsmetal og alternativ metal.
