With a shared love for modal jazz's opportunities to delve into and cultivate the evocative, Orbit was formed in 2016 in a collaboration between saxophonist Søren Lyhne Skov and pianist Peder Vind.

The band debuted in 2019 on Jazzman Records' sublabel Jazz45 and in the fall of 2024 the album Adrift was released, where the band was expanded with Ayi Solomon on Percussion. The LP received great acclaim, including in Mojo Magazine, where it was the jazz album of the month in August 2024.

Musically, we find ourselves in the tension between Afro-inspired modal jazz and free improvisation.

The drumming is dynamic and playful, the bass solidly grooving, the piano playing minimalist and insistent, and the saxophone playing both noisy and beautiful, and it is all meaningfully tied together by Solomon's superior rhythmic sense.

+ Jiyu:
Jiyu, hailing from Copenhagen, fearlessly pushing boundaries across genres, dubbed as "modern late night nu cosmic space jazz" their latest album, "Totem of Quiet Mystic," has garnered international acclaim from jazz magazines like Jazzwise (UK), tastemakers, a slew of iconic radio DJs, and in DK, the prestigious spot as the album of the week on P8 Jazz.

Their rich arrangements, featuring analog synths, electric piano, guitar, flute, sax, and quirky bass-drum-percussion grooves, is streamlined to six musicians on stage: Thomas Dietl (Drums), Emil Jonathan (Guitar & Synth), Ken Linh Doky (Electric Piano and Synths), Rasmus Kjærsgaard (Flute and Sax), Jacob Vikkelsø (Percussion), and Nicolai Land (Bass).

Emil Jonathan, the visionary behind Jiyu, boasts a rich musical pedigree, with previous ventures including the tango-dub project von Daler & Low Pressure and the soulful beats of EMO. Collaborating with luminaries like English hip-hop pioneer DJ Vadim, Dancehall Queen Natasja, and trailblazers of downbeat, nu-jazz, and broken-beat such as Boozoo Bajou, Nu Spirrit Helsinki, and Les Gammas, Emil's sonic tapestry is woven with diverse threads of influence. His recent collaboration with Canadian house producer Fred Everything on "All is Well" (Compost Records, 2024) further underscores his versatility and artistic prowess.

“If you are in the mood for chill-out music, this is your destination” – “There’s a distant spiritual jazz feel that lends a bit of depth and also a touch of 1970s CTI-like calmness in the instrumental passages that coalesce into a series of trancelike moods that largely pass by free from incident, a sort of 21st century version of Eric Satie’s ‘Furniture Music’ with synths” - Jazzwise - Stuart Nicholson (UK)
